I’m kind of creeped out by watching these .gifs, probably because things move too fast in the movie for me to catch most of the FEELS eating at me now, but…the wide-eyed look he had towards the beginning is so…peculiar, somehow. Possibly it’s just because Hiddleston’s eyes are so transparently blue in that light, as if you are looking straight into Loki’s mind AND FINDING NOTHING THERE. But then, from a canonical POV, we have Natasha somewhat earlier “fixing” Clint with a bit of “cognitive recalibration”…and if we assume that Loki has been kind of mind-fucked and that the sceptre and tesseract were amplifying the crazy, then…this is almost like the old Loki coming back and saying “…oh shit…” before very quickly trying to bring things under his control by way of his smart-ass mouth.

But there’s that pause between the dialogue of the first and second .gifs that also gets me. Loki’s ducking his head in a submissive way before going for Puppy Eyes in order to garner sympathy, sure, but I think…oh, I don’t even know. It’s the searching way his eyes move at the end of the second that troubles my feels. It’s like: “…somebody…anybody?” The verbal equivalent of his pathetic little whine after the Hulk uses him to remodel Tony’s floor.

But that good ol’ silver tongue is just a lead weight holding you right to the floor there, Loki m’dear. In a way they didn’t even need to gag you, you’d done it yourself already.

LONG GAME IS LONG.
